What is an Intervention and how does it work?
Intervention is a technique that was originated by the Rev. Vernon Johnson to create a
“controlled crisis” environment for the alcoholic/addict who was reluctant to enter into treatment. 
Today, an Intervention conducted by a trained professional has an 80-90% success rate in convincing a reluctant person to enter into treatment, thus starting on the road to recovery.

It is neither a confrontation nor a test of wills;  instead, an Intervention is meant to break through a person’s
seemingly unsurmountable wall of denial by approaching several of their defense mechanisms through love, compassion, and understanding.  Disabling a persons' defense mechanisms in this manner will allow the family to present the truth about the alcoholics/addicts problem in a calm, rational and loving manner.

The goal of an Intervention is simple: 
Convince a loved one to accept the help being offered, and enter into a treatment program. 
It is not a commitment or guarantee that the person will succeed at treatment, however;  it is simply
the first and most important step towards recovery for the alcoholic/addict & the entire family...
